Data Structures and Algorithms

We welcome you to the Open Assisted Courseware on Data Structures and Algorithms. This course is based on the video recorded lectures of Prof. C. Pandurangan, Dept. of Computer Science, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, conducted at IIITM-K.

Course Description: Our on-line course on Foundations of Data Structures and Algorithms will serve as a core course in any of a sequence of foundation courses in computer science. This course has been designed to strengthen your skills in solving computational problems. It contains a mix of videos, texts, and exercises to complement the learning activities. Please give us feedback (link) about this course.

Before teaching an abstract concept, our approach uses scenarios to motivate the student for a particular topic and provide a framework in which students can organize their knowledge. In that way our course is different from the traditional approaches of directly introducing the abstract concepts. A real world scenario or a philosophical question is discussed usually before going to a new area of study in this course.

The main components of this learning experience is noted below:

  1. A set of scholarly video lectures of about 45 hours covering each point of discussion in a clear manner.
  2. A set of web resources, reading assignment, and exercises to append the video lectures.
  3. A well maintained online discussion forum to clear the doubts for all the participants.
  4. Weekly contact classes as necessary to facilitate the offline discussion.

Instructors: Instructors of the course receive access to the online course management tools for continuous monitoring of the discussion forum, for discussion classes and weekly assessment of the participant and of the program.
