INTRODUCTION

IIITM-K is hosting a Point of Presence(PoP) of ERNET(Education & Research Network). The service of ERNET is available to all education and research institutions. Currently the following services are being provided by this PoP at IIITM-K:

1. Information and Library Network(INFLIBNET) of UGC to Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, University of Calicut, Calicut and University of Kerala, Trivandrum
2. 512 kbps point to point link to Kerala Agriculture University, Vellayani, Trivandrum
3. Hosting of e-courseware of NPTEL(National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning)- http://nptel.tvm.ernet.in

ERNET(Education & Research Network)has made a significant contribution to begin the emergence of networking in the country. It practically brought the Internet to India and has built up national capabilities in the area of networking,especially in protocol software engineering.It has succeeded in building a large network that provides various facilities to the intellectual segment of Indian society,the research and education community.It has over the years become a trendsetter in the field of networking.
